As part of the 2025–2026 Solid Waste Budget, services at Ridout Transfer Station will be transitioning.
What does this mean?
Starting on Sept. 15, 2025, Ridout Transfer Station will only accept:
Other services, such as chippable brush, leaf and yard waste, and the re-use shed, will no longer be available at this site and will be decommissioned.
The site’s hours of operation aren't changing.
| Where can I bring the other waste? |
| Anyone with items outside the accepted list can visit our nearby sites at McLean, Franklin, or Sinclair transfer stations. Visit the Drop-off Locations and Landfill page for hours and locations. |
| Why was the service level changed at this location? |
|
The Ridout Transfer Station has a smaller footprint and is not equipped with a weigh-scale, which limits its ability to manage certain types of waste, particularly commercial loads. Additionally, overall site usage is lower compared to other District waste drop-off facilities. To continue accepting commercial waste or materials that require weigh-scale tracking, significant upgrades would be necessary, including the installation of permanent elevated waste ramp barriers. As part of the 2025–2026 Solid Waste Budget, a service level change was approved to avoid these capital expenses and adjust the type of waste accepted at the site. Importantly, the level of service for residents disposing of their weekly limits of garbage, recycling, and organics remains unchanged. |
Thank you for your understanding as we continue to improve and streamline waste services in Muskoka.
To help prevent potential fall hazards and improve safety, temporary barriers were installed at all District Waste Facilities in August 2023.
While these barriers improved safety, we recognize they also created challenges for some residents—especially when lifting large loads or certain material types.
We’ve now finalized a customized permanent safety barrier design that meets health and safety requirements while optimizing site operations and cleanliness.

Please also check signage at Transfer Stations for site impacts.
Please note: Tip trailers will not be accommodated at Transfer Stations. Residents using tip trailers can continue to use the Rosewarne Landfill.
