Please note:
Our Waste Facilities can accept volumes that will fit in a pickup truck or small utility trailer (up to 10 cubic yards per week). Any loads over this quantity require disposal at the Rosewarne Landfill in Bracebridge.
| Elevated Waste Ramp Project: Progress updates, installations continuing in 2026 |
|
To help prevent potential fall hazards and improve safety, temporary barriers were installed at all District Waste Facilities in August 2023. While these barriers improved safety, we recognize they also created challenges for some residents—especially when lifting large loads or certain material types. We’ve now finalized a customized permanent safety barrier design that meets health and safety requirements while optimizing site operations and cleanliness. The awarded contractor has completed work at the Rosewarne Transfer Station, Beiers Transfer Station and Eveleigh Transfer Station. The next phase of work is will take place at the Stisted Transfer Station starting on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 Please note: Tip trailers will not be accommodated at Transfer Stations. Residents using tip trailers can continue to use the Rosewarne Landfill. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to make waste drop-off safer and more efficient across Muskoka. For questions or feedback, email us at waste@muskoka.on.ca. |

Waste sites are out in the elements. They can be muddy in the spring and fall, snowy and icy in the winter and dusty and hot in the summer. Please wear close-toed footwear (like boots or running shoes) when attending the site. The terrain can be uneven. Please watch your step and ensure you have clear sightlines if carrying objects. Waste facilities can attract wildlife, including bears. Bears may seem fun to watch, but they view garbage and litter as their food source. If you see a bear at our site, do not approach it or walk towards it. When bears are present, sites may be temporarily closed for public safety. Loitering is prohibited. Even though waste sites may seem like a fun place to bird watch, bear watch or catch up with neighbours, for your safety we ask that the sites only be used to dispose of waste. Stay in the marked areas, attend only to deposit waste and recycling and please exit the site as soon as you are done disposing of your waste. Staff at District Waste Facilities follow numerous procedures to comply with legislation and to ensure the personal safety of residents and staff. Customers entering waste facilities use the facility at their own risk. For the safety of themselves and others, customers must:
Use at your own riskThe District of Muskoka makes every effort to ensure waste facilities are safe for residents to use, however the District is not responsible for injury or damage to vehicles caused by use of the sites. Bins and other surface objects at sites are not sanitized. |

Clear Bag Requirement, effective February 9th, 2026, waste in black or opaque bags will only be accepted at our waste drop-off facilities under the mixed waste fee. This applies to both residential and commercial users. Where to find clear bags: Clear contractor bags are available at most construction supply stores throughout Muskoka. Load Requirements All bagged waste brought to our transfer stations must be in clear, colorless garbage bags. Loads containing 20% or more divertible materials will be charged the mixed load rate. When waste arrives in black bags, our site attendants cannot confirm whether the load has been properly sorted, so it will automatically be charged as a mixed load. Paid Recycling Recycling brought to a waste facility by a business is considered commercial and may be subject to a fee for loads weighing more than 20 kg. Paid commercial recycling is only accepted at the following locations: Rosewarne Transfer Station, Beiers Transfer Station, Eveleigh Transfer Station, Baxter Transfer Station, and Franklin Transfer Station. Tip Trailers Our transfer stations are equipped with fall prevention barriers in front of the ramp bins for safety. Due to these barriers, tip/dump trailers cannot be operated at transfer stations and would need to be emptied by hand. Tip trailers are welcome during operating hours at our Rosewarne Landfill, where they can be safely emptied on the landfill face. 10 Cubic Yard Limit Muskoka's transfer stations have a paid waste limit of 10 cubic yards per week, per business. Loads exceeding this limit will be directed to Rosewarne Landfill. Have questions? Feel free to contact us at waste@muskoka.on.ca - We're here to help! |
