The District has been working closely with our consulting team and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) for approved waste collection service as we transition the bin (dumpster) sites. For more information on the Bin Site Transition Plan and alternate services planned for communities, please visit our project page.
Please note, the schedule for East Bay Landing has been updated.

2025-2026 Winter Lakeside Schedule |
| What can I bring? |
| Summer: The weekly limit is two clear, colourless garbage bags.
Winter: The bi-weekly limit is four clear, colourless garbage bags, securely tied shut. Recycling is unlimited and must be placed in clear or transparent bags, or it may be brought in an open-top container. Green bin organic material can be delivered to any District transfer station, or South Gibson and Housey's Rapids depots during normal operating hours. Not sure where it goes? Try our Waste Wizard. Simply type in any item, and the Waste Wizard will tell you if it's recyclable, belongs in your garbage bag or needs special care. |
| Can garbage be dropped off outside of event hours? |
| No, it can't. We are relying on the cooperation of our dedicated Muskoka community to respect this service and, at the same time, preserve our beautiful Muskoka environment – the reason we all choose to live here.
Any abandoned garbage left on the ground before or after the event time is considered illegal dumping. These instances will be investigated and may result in the cancellation of the program. |
| How do I find my Lakeside Collection Schedule? |
|
All lakeside residents can now access their event schedule using the free app, Muskoka Waste, available on the App Store or Goggle Play. The Muskoka Waste app provides collection event reminders and alerts about service delays or cancellations due to weather, etc. |
| Why aren’t organics able to be collected separately at Lakeside Waste Collection events? |
| Our collection vehicles are dual-stream, meaning they can collect two waste streams at once (currently garbage and recycling.) Due to space constraints at many Lakeside Waste Collection sites, accommodating a second vehicle for organics isn’t feasible at this time. With changes underway to how recycling is managed across Ontario, the future of what can be collected separately at these events may evolve. Updates will be shared through the Muskoka Waste App and/or on-site signage at Lakeside Collection events as they become available. |
| What form of proof of residency is provided at Lakeside Waste Collection? |
|
Residents are asked to provide their property address (e.g., 1234 Muskoka Shore) when dropping off waste. If the property is eligible for Lakeside Waste Collection (i.e., included on the attendance list), waste may be brought by car. Lakeside is being run in lieu of curbside collections, material being generated from public lands (crown land) cannot be accepted at Lakeside and must be taken to a transfer station or depot. |
