Volunteering and Donations

The PSC have been encouraging charitable donations for over 15 years that benefit the residents and enhance the lives of residents at the Pines. Over the years, the PSC have hosted several fundraisers and events including gala dinners, online and silent auctions, and gratefully accept ‘In Memoriam’ donations and general donations from Service Clubs in the area.

Members are asked for a minimum one-year term commitment. Meetings happen quarterly to discuss fundraising plans, expenditure requests and general business. Possible activities may include attending in-house activities and assisting in planning and executing fundraising activities.

Funds are used towards enhancing existing services and activities offered to residents. Requests come from residents, families, or staff for the PSC’s consideration.

Here are some examples of how funds raised by the PSC have been used in the past:

• The committee set a goal to replace every resident bed with what is called a "Hi-Lo" bed which benefits both residents and staff immensely - allowing for easier resident transfers, assisting staff with resident care, and more importantly reducing fall risk. (To date, the Committee has provided funding to replace all 160 beds!)
• Purchase of new technology such as iPads for each unit so loved ones could Facetime regularly, four smart televisions to help staff provide entertainment and activities for residents, a desktop computer and two laptops for resident use.
• Equipment purchases, such as palliative care carts, steady lifts, sit to stand lifts, secure cleaning carts, cordless vacuums for resident home area, and a BBQ for resident and staff use.

The Committee is proud to say in 2022 they have raised funds and provided equipment and services for The Pines costing just shy of $200,000!

• All gifts to the Pines Support Committee Fund are greatly appreciated and tax deductible.
• The Committee makes recommendations to the District on how funds raised should be used to support care and services at the Pines.
• Committee members request input from Pines Management, staff, family and friends to prioritize the needs of the residents and help make sure the Pines maintains its homelike feel.

• In Memoriam donations are gifts made in memory of a deceased loved one or friend. They are a wonderful way to remember someone and support The Pines at the same time.
• In Honour donations are gifts made to recognize a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. You can make a gift in honour of your own special celebration or in the name of a family member or loved one.

By remembering us in your estate and financial plans you will be helping to optimizing the residents as well receive a tax donation receipt.

Examples include: Bequests under a will, endowments/legacies, insurance policies, and charitable gift annuities, gifts in kind such as stocks, bonds and real estate property.
