About Our Virtual Programs

WISE Mobile Active Living Centre offers free community programs for adults 55+ across Muskoka. On this page you can browse our virtual programs.

If you’re new to WISE, learn how to become a member on our What We Do page.

Art

Get crafty with WISE this winter.  Learn about art history and join in on some art sessions. Whether you are new to art or revisiting an hobby - there is something for everyone! Please note that some programs have limited spaces and registration dates to ensure delivery of supply kits when applicable.

Tuesday, January 13 10:00 - 11:00 am The Importance of Art History - Series 1

Art history is more than the study of paintings, sculptures, and buildings—it is the study of human experience across time. Starting with a walking tour of Lascaux Cave painted over 20,000 years ago, our guide Sue Buckingham will lead us through time speaking of the world’s true masterpieces.

Tuesday, January 20 10:00 - 11:00 am The Importance of Art History - Series 2
Continuing from where we left off in Series 1, we will continue to present day.

Wednesday, January 28 11:00 - 12:00 pm Introduction to Paper Quilling
Take simple strips of paper, roll them into various patterns and create beautiful designs. We will tackle a custom monogram as our starter piece. Please register by January 12, 2026 to ensure you can receive supplies.
Wednesday, February 25 11:00 - 12:00 pm Macrame - Snowflakes
Learn the art of macrame and tying various knots to create custom and unique crafts. Please register by February 12, 2026 to ensure you can receive supplies.
Wednesday, March 25 11:00 - 12:00 pm Watercolour - birthday inspired cards
Learn to create works of art to stay connected with these wonderful watercolour birthday card designs. Please register by March 1, 2026 to ensure you can receive supplies.

Caregivers

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Join Powerful Tools for Caregivers certificated volunteer instructor in support of the Self Management Program on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 pm for six weeks. This series begins on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Classes will be held on Zoom and the link will remain the same for the duration of the series. In the six weekly classes, caregivers develop a wealth of self-care tools to:

  • Reduce personal stress, change negative self-talk, communicate their needs to family members and healthcare or service providers, communicate effectively in challenging situations
  • Recognize the messages in their emotions, deal with difficult feelings, and make tough caregiving decisions.
  • Class participants will receive a copy of The Caregiver Help book, developed specifically for the class.
  • Class participants will receive an Activity Kit for the person they are caring for to enjoy while attending the sessions.

Registration opens on December 1, 2025 and limited spots available. Zoom link will be sent to participants a few days prior to the session.

Culture and Cuisine Workshops

Travel to different areas of the world with WISE and try a variety of Culture and Cuisine on Zoom this winter. Each session will offer an ingredient list in advance as well as a unique Zoom link to join in each cultural cooking workshop. You can watch and learn or cook alongside each chef.  Experience a world of flavour!

Fitness Program - Bee Fit
Beat the winter blues with Bee Fit on Friday mornings. This winter series begins on Friday, January 9 and ends on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Zoom. 

Bee Fit offers a variety of light cardio, balance, and strength training geared to older adults 55+. Bee Fit, Bees Knees Muskoka is facilitated by owner and instructor Fyonna, who brings fun and energy to fitness. The exercises aim to mobilize, stabilize and build functional movement so everyday activities are supported.  All fitness levels are welcome to attend.  Movement can be done from a sitting or a standing position (no floor movements).  

Registration is open December 1, 2025.  A confirmation email with zoom link will be sent upon registration, the zoom link will remain the same for the entire winter series. Zoom link will be sent to participants a few days prior to the session.

 

Fitness Program - Winter Wanderers

Stay active with the Winter Wanderers this season starting in January. Explore all Muskoka has to offer and embark on a journey with us. Hike or snowshoe a trail in Muskoka and list it on the My Muskoka Trails section of the program guide. Each trail completed is an entry to WIN! Share your photos with us along your adventure for a bonus entry for each trail.  Send in your My Muskoka Trails by April 1, 2026 to be entered.

Over time, humans have used many different materials to make clothing. While we’re familiar with cotton, polyester, linen, and silk, what about whale bone, tree bark, or other plant materials? Join us for an exploration of clothing from around the world and across the ages.

Learn Supportive Communication with Alzheimer Society of Muskoka in recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in January. Discuss tips and techniques to result in positive outcomes and meaningful conversations. The Alzheimer Society of Muskoka can help you by providing information, resources, education, support and counseling.

February is Heart Awareness Month and a great time to learn about heart disease and prevention with The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Learn ways to reduce your risk, educate yourself on signs and symptoms, and join us as we promote the FAST Campaign across Muskoka.

Embrace Nutrition shares How to Eat and Age Well with members on Zoom in support of Nutrition Month this March. Stay healthy and happy while eating right to promote aging well at home.
