How affordable rent is set
Affordable rent is based on housing rates that are reviewed and updated each year.
Average Market Rent (CMHC)
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) sets average market rent for each community. Affordable rent is set at 20% below this amount excluding utilities.

How to apply for affordable rental housing
To apply, you must:
- Complete an application form
- Provide proof of legal status in Canada for each person on the application
- Provide a recent Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment (NOA) for each person
