Muskoka Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan

Building a Sustainable Muskoka, Together

Muskoka is committed to reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency, not just for District operations, but for the entire community. That’s why the District developed the Muskoka Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan (CEERP), a long-term strategy that guides the transition to a cleaner, more energy-efficient future.

What is the CEERP?

The CEERP was developed in partnership with community and area municipalities to help Muskoka reduce its carbon footprint and build a more sustainable energy system.

Key goals include:

  • Cut community-wide emissions by 50% (below 2018 levels) by 2030
  • Increase energy efficiency in homes, businesses, and public spaces
  • Encourage cleaner transportation options, like EVs and transit
  • Support renewable energy projects and green infrastructure
  • Help residents and businesses reduce energy costs

This plan works alongside the District’s corporate GHG Initiative and Climate Change Action Plan (MCCAP) to align efforts across municipal, business, and residential sectors.

How is Muskoka Taking Action?

The CEERP focuses on both municipal and community-led actions:

Municipal Actions
  • Energy efficiency upgrades in District-owned buildings
  • Investments in green infrastructure, such as EV charging stations
  • Expanding sustainable transportation options, including transit
  • Promote circular economy initiatives and a culture of reduction and reuse in Muskoka by encouraging local share, repair, and reuse events
Community Actions
  • Promoting energy-efficient home retrofits and incentives
  • Encouraging businesses to adopt sustainable practices
  • Supporting local renewable energy projects
  • Expanding outreach and education on energy savings

What Does This Mean for You?

The CEERP is about more than just government action, it’s about empowering the community. Everyone has a role to play in reducing energy use and transitioning to a cleaner future.

Here’s how you can get involved:
