(Muskoka, ON) - On June 30, staff, residents, board members, representatives of District and Town of Huntsville Councils, and Friends of Fairvern gathered to celebrate a significant milestone as Fairvern transitioned operations to become part of the District of Muskoka’s Health Services Long-Term Care Division.

Muskoka Paramedic Services Recognizes Staff’s Dedication and Contribution to Paramedicine

May 27, 2022 (Bracebridge, ON) – During National Paramedic week (May 22 to 28), the District of Muskoka used social media and held a medal ceremony to recognize paramedics’ dedication and contribution to paramedicine. Nationally, this year's theme was “Faces of Paramedicine" which focused on the diverse and growing range of specialties within the profession.

As part of the recognition, the District of Muskoka and Muskoka Paramedic Services hosted the first MPS Long-Service Medal Ceremony.

Port Carling Locks Reopening with Restrictions in Place

The Port Carling Large Locks is reopening on Monday, May 1, 2023 with restrictions in place to protect the health and safety of staff and the community.

Visitors can access the large locks beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, during regular weekday operating hours. Lockage fees can be found on our website. Visitors to the Port Carling Locks are reminded that the use of the locks and onsite facilities is at their own risk.

District’s GeoHub and Geomatics Team Supporting Area Municipalities Through Apps

In a presentation to Council, the District’s Geomatics team highlighted several new apps that have been added to the Muskoka GeoHub since its launch in 2020.   Three of the latest apps were developed to support the work of the District and the area municipalities, including a 2019 Muskoka Flood Historical Video app, a Muskoka Votes app to support the 2022 municipal election, and a new local wildfire mapping app.

(Bracebridge, Ontario) – District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Julie Stevens is pleased to announce the appointments of Arfona Zwiers as the new Commissioner of Community and Planning Services (CPS) and James Steele as the new Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works (EPW) for the District Municipality of Muskoka (District).   Steele will begin his new role with the District on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, and Zwiers will join the District effective Thursday, June 2, 2022.

April 25, 2022 (Bracebridge, ON) – The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVIT) run through the District Municipality of Muskoka (the District) is booking appointments for May and June!

The District is registered with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and works with community partners and volunteers to provide FREE tax clinics to eligible individuals, families, seniors and persons with disabilities living in Muskoka.

Local Artist Creates Special Mural at The Pines in Thanks to the Community

April 22, 2022 (Bracebridge, ON) – Local artist Kimberly Rideout Chivers revealed a very special new mural at the Pine Long-Term Care home this week. Kimberly had announced earlier this year that she was looking to donate a mural as a way to pay it forward and thank the community that supported her during a health crisis. Her social media posts asked for suggestions from the community as to where the mural should go, and the Pines Long Term Care Home was the most popular suggestion.
