The Acton Island Bridge is about to receive rehabilitation work, starting May 23rd, 2023. The bridge, which has served the community for many decades, requires rehabilitation work to preserve critical structural components and maintain the structure's original service life of 75 years. The project will also include resurfacing and drainage improvements on Muskoka Road 29, which are included in the Bridge Rehabilitation contract.
During the spring and summer months, there will be no restrictions to passage, but there will be delays. For most of the project,
motorists will experience only slight delays when crossing the Bridge while construction crews work under single lane conditions - you may need to listen to your favourite song for a couple more verses.
We have worked to ensure continued access for the majority of this project - As we work through the repairs and rehabilitation, we will need to repair and resurface the bridge deck near the end of the project – and this will require carefully sequenced full road closures. All closures will be conducted in full coordination with essential services and members of the community.
Stay tuned for more information and timelines, coming soon!
