     Our Purpose and What We Do
    Our Purpose

    In response to the murder of George Floyd in 2020, the District of Muskoka engaged consultants to explore issues of inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism in Muskoka, including needs and gap analyses. The information gathered in the IDEA Community Report 2021 was used to establish the IDEA Advisory Group in 2021.

    The District of Muskoka established the IDEA Advisory Group in 2021, bringing together municipal representatives, community champions, local leaders and partner organizations to identify, address, and prevent discrimination, racism, and social inequities in Muskoka and support a #HateFreeMuskoka.

    What We Do

    • we provide advice and make recommendations to District Council to support it in its goal to become a more inclusive, diverse, equitable and anti-racist community;
    • we anticipate community needs in advance of current or relevant issues;
    • we create opportunities for community engagement and public education to advance the goals of IDEA;
    • we educate about issues related to IDEA; and
    • we promote the goals of IDEA to the Muskoka community at large.
