Flooding is the most prevalent and costly natural disaster in Muskoka. Climate change is will likely cause an increase in extreme precipitation events and cause changes to the spring melt resulting in increased flooding events in Muskoka.

December 24, 2022 (Muskoka, ON) - A Significant Weather Event was declared on December 23, 2022 by the District of Muskoka - waste facilities are closed, and will reopen on Tuesday December 27, 2022.
The Significant Weather Event remains in effect - community members are encouraged to stay off the roads, a significant accumulation of snowfall continues to cause hazardous driving conditions.

The District of Muskoka is reminding residents that garbage collection changes to bi-weekly pick-up, the first week of November. During the winter schedule, recycling and green bin organics (in urban areas) continue to be collected weekly.
