June 6, 2023 - (Muskoka, ON) – The Acton Island Bridge is scheduled for rehabilitation and resurfacing this spring. Motorists will experience only slight delays when crossing the bridge while construction crews work under single-lane conditions for the most part, but several overnight closures will be required to complete the work towards the end of the project. To minimize the impact on the community, the closures will be scheduled to avoid holidays, weekends, and regular commuter traffic. Residents and stakeholders will be given at least 10 days' notice before the closures occur. EMS access will be maintained throughout construction, including all road closures.
The rehabilitation project, which includes resurfacing and drainage improvements on Muskoka Road 29, started on May 23rd, 2023. During the repairs and rehabilitation, we will need to repair and resurface the bridge deck near the end of the project, and this will require carefully sequenced full road closures. We will coordinate with essential services and members of the community to minimize the impacts.
We understand the inconvenience that construction can cause, which is why we have worked to ensure continued access for the majority of this project.
