More Ways to Manage Waste: Southwood Depot Opens in Muskoka Lakes

Residents and seasonal property owners in the Muskoka Lakes area now have a convenient option for managing their household waste, recycling, and organics. 

The District Municipality of Muskoka officially celebrated the opening of the Southwood Depot in Muskoka Lakes earlier this week, marking another important milestone in the ongoing Bin Site Transition Project. 

Located at 4184 Southwood Road, Torrance, ON, the new depot opened for service on Saturday, July 4. The Southwood Depot is part of Muskoka’s ongoing efforts to modernize waste services and provide more convenient, reliable, and environmentally responsible options for residents. 

A convenient and responsible waste solution close to home 

“The opening of the Southwood Depot provides residents and seasonal property owners with a dependable waste management option that is closer to home,” said Township of Muskoka Lakes Mayor, Peter Kelley, who attended the opening celebration on Tuesday. “This new facility supports a cleaner, safer, and more efficient waste management system while ensuring residents have access to the services they need.” 

Supervised drop-off depots are an important part of Muskoka’s waste management system, providing all residents with a reliable and responsible way to dispose of waste and recycling. Open to everyone, these depots offer a convenient option for managing materials close to home across Muskoka.

The Southwood Depot is one part of Muskoka’s ongoing efforts to modernize waste services and provide solutions that better reflect the needs of communities across the District. Alongside curbside collection, Lakeside Waste Collection, and other waste programs, supervised depots help ensure residents have access to responsible waste management options.
