The District of Muskoka, has partnered with Lakeland EV Charging who has secured funding through the Provincial ChargeOn Grant. This initiative has enabled the installation of 4, Level 2 chargers at 98 Pine St, Bracebridge, Ontario.

These chargers are open to the public. As the EV charging infrastructure continues to grow across Muskoka, the transition to electric vehicles for residents and visitors becomes easier. Explore all available charging stations in the District by visiting the Charge Hub page.

Why Transition to an Electric or Hybrid Vehicle?
As the cost of EVs continues to decrease and their range improves, switching from a gas powered car to an electric one makes more sense than ever.  If you’re in the market for a new or used vehicle, the benefits of choosing an EV or hybrid increasingly outweigh those of gas powered cars.

EVs require less maintenance, no oil changes, transmission repairs, or exhaust systems to fix.  With gas prices on the rise it is more affordable to charge your EV at home overnight due to the low off peak electricity rates.  If you buy a plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle the next time you are in the market, you could pocket hundreds of dollars of savings a month.

Addressing Range Concerns
Some may raise concerns about battery range and “range anxiety” but with advancements in battery technology, many EVs are capable of covering up to 500km on a single charge. Muskoka’s growing network of charging stations ensures finding a spot to recharge in the area is straightforward and accessible.

Our electric grid is powered by 84% clean energy (hydro, nuclear, solar and wind)which means a significant reduction in driving related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when you charge your car compared to filling up with gas.

Impact on Community Emissions
Given that 70% of community GHG emissions come from vehicles, accelerating the switch towards EV or Hybrid cars is crucial in mitigating these emissions.  That means good things for our climate, environment and air quality. As climate change challenges intensify, eliminating fossil fuel emissions becomes even more critical.

By choosing an electric or hybrid vehicle, you’re contributing to preserving Muskoka’s pristine environment, allowing for continued prosperity of our forests, waters, wildlife and our future generations. Switching to EVs is not just about technological advancements, it’s about securing Muskoka’s ecological future.
