Huntsville OPP Detachment Board

The District of Muskoka is responsible for policing in Muskoka and uses the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to deliver this service. Three OPP detachments provide police services across communities in Muskoka - the Bracebridge, Huntsville and Southern Georgian Bay Detachments. 

The Huntsville OPP Detachment provides police services to the Town of Huntsville and the Township of Lake of Bays.

OPP Detachment Boards are required for all police service detachments in the Province. (Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019

Huntsville OPP Detachment Board Membership 

Members of the Huntsville OPP Detachment Board are appointed by Muskoka District Council. The term of office for Board members is the end of the current Council Term plus six (6) months or when a new representative is appointed whichever is the earlier. The end of the current term of Council is October 26, 2026. 

The 6-member Board consists of the following members: 

Council Member Seats (3) 

  • District Chair Jeff Lehman 
  • District Councillor Nancy Alcock (Town of Huntsville)
  • District Councillor Terry Glover (Township of Lake of Bays)

Community Representative Seats (2)

  • Pauline Meunier (Town of Huntsville)
  • Fred Landry (Township of Lake of Bays)

Provincial Appointees (1)

  • One to be appointed by the Province of Ontario. 

The OPP Detachment Board Chair and Vice-Chair are appointed by the Board at the first meeting of each year of the term: 

  • 2024 Board Chair to be appointed
  • 2024 Board Vice-Chair - to be appointed

Key Responsibilities
  1. Consult with the Commissioner regarding the selection of a detachment commander and otherwise participate, in accordance with the regulations made by the Minister, in the selection of the detachment commander;
  2. Determine objectives and priorities for the detachment, not inconsistent with the strategic plan prepared by the Minister, after consultation with the detachment commander or his or her designate;
  3. Advise the detachment commander with respect to policing provided by the detachment;
  4. Monitor the performance of the detachment commander;
  5. Review the reports from the detachment commander or his or her designate regarding policing provided by the detachment; and
  6. On or before June 30 each year, provide an annual report to the municipalities and band councils regarding the policing provided by the detachment in their municipalities or First Nation reserves.
 An OPP detachment board may also establish local policies, after consultation with the detachment commander or his or her designate, with respect to policing in the area receiving policing from the detachment.
Meeting Schedule
The Huntsville OPP Detachment Board is required to meet a minimum of four (4) times per year. Meeting dates and times will be posted on the District’s website on the Meeting Calendar. Live Webcasts and Recordings

Live streaming of the meetings may be available, please confirm on the meeting agenda if the meeting is in person and will not be streamed. If available, live streaming for the meetings will be on the District Website. 

Webcast recordings will be retained for a period of six months. The Board Administrator reserves the right to retain certain recordings for a longer period of time. 

Huntsville OPP Detachment

The Huntsville OPP Detachment has an Action Plan to guide detachment operation and ensure community safety. The plans are designed to identify local crime and traffic priorities. Once priorities are identified, specific activities are established to promote community engagement, increase public education and concentrate enforcement efforts. Progress Reporting is done annually during the three-year action planning cycle.
