Prepare for Winter Collection with our Wintry Curbside Tips

December 9, 2021 (Muskoka, ON) - Bi-weekly garbage collection means winter has arrived in Muskoka. As we prepare for the months ahead, our goal is to provide consistent waste collection during challenging Muskoka winter conditions and we need your help!

  • If winter weather delays collection, updates will be posted at www.muskokarecycles.ca and on our Muskoka Recycles mobile app.
  • Don’t forget – we start collection at 7 a.m.! Set material out before 7 a.m. on the morning of collection to prevent overnight snow cover. Snow-covered material could lead to missed collection due to poor visibility.
  • Don’t place material on top of snowbanks. Material placed on a snowbank presents an unsafe, awkward reach and cannot be collected. Instead, clear an area without blocking the sidewalk, to the side of your driveway or place your containers/bags in your driveway. Ensure the placement of your material does not interfere with snow removal equipment.
  • Bring in your empty containers as soon as possible.
  • If using a roadside bin, it must be clear of snow and ice – please make sure lids and latches are not frozen. A clear path must be maintained so crews can collect material safely.
  • Bi-weekly garbage collection calendars are available on our Muskoka Recycles App or www.muskokarecycles.ca

What Do I Do if I Think I Was Missed?

Winter weather can cause changes in collection times as drivers navigate through difficult areas and drive according to road conditions. We remind residents that material must be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. as routes may be collected at different times of day – we ask residents for their patience and understanding as crews may be on the roads as late as 7 p.m. in the evening completing routes.

If you think you may have been missed, visit www.muskokarecycles.ca or check your notifications on our Muskoka Recycles mobile app for delays and collection impacts. Crews will attempt to return to missed areas the next business day.

Collection impacts and delays will be posted at www.muskokarecycles.ca and on our Muskoka Recycles mobile app. We also encourage our community to notify us of ongoing collection concerns – we’re here to help! Fill out our missed collection form or send us a service alert on our app.

Muskoka Recycles App

Residents are encouraged to download the free Muskoka Recycles mobile app or visit www.muskokarecycles.ca for collection calendars, directions to waste facilities, to report a problem or ask a question and to use the Waste Wizard to find out what goes where. Turn on your notifications to find out if we are experiencing delays in your neighbourhood.
