Friday, March 10, 2023 (Bracebridge, ON) – The District Municipality of Muskoka announces the final construction activities for the Santa's Village Road project. After a delay in 2022 due to the need to add additional road bed materials to ensure proper road base conditions as well as the lifespan of the road, construction activities will resume for this project as we move into spring 2023.
Finishing touches - Final Construction Activities Coming Spring 2023
We are excited to see the “finishing touches” made on this important project. The District and our contractors remain committed to starting and completing this project as quickly as possible through the 2023 construction season.
The District understands the inconvenience that these disruptions have caused and would like to thank everyone for their patience during these necessary road upgrades. We will continue to provide updates as the construction progresses and this project nears completion.
We anticipate construction activities to resume once half load restrictions have been lifted (most likely some point in mid-May). Our contractor has currently indicated that they expect work to be finished towards the end of July.
Some key construction activities that remain include:
Current activity - Lakeland Power is Currently Undertaking Improvements
Currently, some activity can be spotted on Santa’s Village Road. Lakeland Power is undertaking utility pole improvements, relocation and tree trimming. The relocation and tree trimming are need to ensure that the utility poles are kept safely away from the roadway and can continue to provide hydro utility servicing to residents along Santa’s Village Road and beyond. Single-lane traffic disruptions can be expected while this work takes place. We appreciate your patience and understanding during while this work takes place.
Reminder - Reduced Speed Limit on Santa's Village Road
As part of the ongoing Santa's Village Road project, the speed limit on the road has been lowered to 40 kilometres per hour. This is in preparation for the implementation of a Community Safety Zone from Muskoka Road 118 to Santa's Village Theme Park. While the speed limit reduction is currently in place, the Community Safety Zone, which doubles speeding fines, will be in effect once construction is complete.
