A step forward for local families and the Fairvern Long-Term Care Home capital project

Muskoka, ON -- Muskoka Family Focus will open the waitlist for the new Fairvern Early Learning Child Care Centre (FELCC) on January 12, 2026. The licensed child care centre will be located on the new Fairvern Long-Term Care Home campus in Huntsville. FELCC has 64 spaces for children aged 0-4, including 10 infant spaces, with services expected to begin in late Fall 2026.

“This is an important step forward for children and families across Muskoka,” said Sarah MacKay, the Managing Director of Muskoka Family Focus. “We want children to thrive, and we want parents to feel supported with safe, reliable child care.”

The new centre will help address the growing need for licensed child care in the community. FELCC will offer:

  • Extended hours and Saturday care
  • Support for families and care givers who require licensed child outside regular business hours
  • Intergenerational programming that brings children and Fairvern residents together through planned programming and casual interactions
  • Support for recruitment and retention of staff at the Fairvern Long Term Care Home

Families interested in joining the waitlist for the Fairvern Early Learning Child Care Centre can visit: muskokafamilyfocus.ca/waitlist-inquiry/. Muskoka Family Focus will contact families in the coming months. Families are asked not to contact Fairvern directly.

The Fairvern Early Learning Child Care Centre is part of the broader Fairvern campus redevelopment, which is designed to support residents at every stage of life.

“This project shows how one investment can support people at every stage of life,” said Jeff Lehman, District Chair of the District Municipality of Muskoka. “The Fairvern redevelopment and the new child care centre will deliver lasting benefits for children, seniors and families across our communities.”

Community Update on Fairvern Redevelopment

Construction of the new Fairvern Long-Term Care Home is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026, with residents moving in later that fall. The District is finalizing its occupancy plan for submission to the Ministry of Long-Term Care, including staffing, training, operational readiness and the resident move process.

The new home will implement a Social Model of Care, which focuses on resident choice, comfort and meaningful daily life. This approach is designed to create a more home-like, person-centred environment for residents.
