
Strong financial position supports long-term planning as residents are asked to share input on the 2027 budget
Muskoka, ON – The District of Muskoka’s Aa1 long-term credit rating has been re-affirmed by Moody’s Investors Service with a stable outlook. The rating reflects Muskoka’s strong financial position, careful fiscal management and long-term planning.
A credit rating is similar to a personal credit score. It shows how well an organization manages its money and pays its debts. A strong rating can help lower borrowing costs and save money over time.

Moody’s also recognized Muskoka’s strong governance practices, including long-term planning, transparent budgeting and careful management of debt and reserves. The agency said Muskoka continues to benefit from strong financial planning, stable revenues, responsible debt management, and healthy reserves.
“Keeping our Aa1 credit rating is an indicator that council is making smart financial decisions for Muskoka’s future,” said Jeff Lehman, Chair of the District Municipality of Muskoka. “It allows the District to invest in programs and services that are important to the community, while managing taxpayer dollars responsibly.”
The rating comes as Muskoka continues work on major projects across the District, including housing, long-term care and wastewater infrastructure. Moody’s noted that Muskoka is well-positioned to manage rising costs through careful budgeting and long-term planning.
“This rating reflects our commitment to using taxpayer dollars responsibly,” said Suzanne Olimer, Commissioner of Finance and Corporate Services. “Strong financial planning helps ensure we can continue providing the services residents rely on today while preparing for the future.”
As the District continues planning for future investments and services, resident feedback will play an important role in shaping priorities for the 2027 Budget.
