We're teaming up to create a caring community because we're better together. Below, you'll find updates on projects, highlights, and upcoming events. Creating our Campus of Care - Integration Project Updates
We are better together.
Long-Term Care (LTC) is the District’s most significant operational division by number of staff. Over the next few years, we will transform how Fairvern and the Pines work together by integrating our strengths, resources and know-how. Together, we will refine how we:
- Deliver quality resident care
- Create progressive services
- Support the health and wellbeing of staff
Several projects are happening to help us work towards our future together.
| The Pines Back Office Integration Project |
| This project is about moving back-office systems the Pines currently uses for administrative tasks like payroll, scheduling, IT services, human resources, procurement, policies, and records management away from Extendicare, which currently provides these services, to the systems used by the District’s Corporate Services teams. |
| Fairvern Back Office Integration Project |
| Fairvern transitioned to District Payroll Services and Account Payable processes in 2023. The next step will be for Fairvern to transition over to District Receivables processes in the new year. More information to come! |
Staffing and Recruitment
Recruiting employees to fill our staffing compliment has been an ongoing challenge and remains a top priority for our LTC Homes. We are carefully monitoring the staffing situation at both homes and have developed a monthly dashboard report for Health Services Committee and District Council. You can read the latest report here.
Coming Home 2025 - Fairvern Redevelopment Project
New Build Updates
Following the Province’s commitment to fund additional beds, work to redevelop the Fairvern Long Term Care Home in Huntsville into a 160-bed long-term care facility is well underway. The new build has entered Stage 2 of the project. (See image below for reference.)

New Home Operational Planning
Fairvern will be working with Bessant Pelech Associates (BPA), a consulting practice which specializes in the fields of gerontology and long-term care. BPA will be assisting our team to develop operational plans for the new home as well as program design for new processes that will be necessary in a larger home. BPA plans to be on site in February and will be meeting with Residents, Staff, Families and other Stakeholders.

- HS-2-2023-1 –Fairvern Transition Plan Phase II - The Fairvern transition is currently in phase II. This report outlines the key activities that have, or will, occur during this phase.
- HS-11-2023-2 – Long-Term Care Homes – Transition Plans – Status Report - This report outlines the Long-Term Care Homes integration status including implementation timelines to integrate The Pines Long-Term Care Home operations into the District’s corporate systems.
