Sunday, January 10, 2021 (Bracebridge, ON) - The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has issued a Boil Water Advisory for Bracebridge water customers, following a water main break resulting in a Bracebridge-wide outage. The issue has been identified and isolated to the Wharf Road area in Bracebridge.
If you know a resident of Bracebridge who does not have access to the internet or social media, please reach out and share this information with them.
Boil Water Advisory (BWA) – How Long?
Water pressure is slowly being restored to customers, however, a BWA is in effect until further notice. Even if you have water pressure and running water, a BWA is in effect until lifted. The BWA is expected to remain in place until the water mains have been flushed and test results have confirmed the water is safe for drinking. At this time, it is anticipated that the BWA will remain in place until the end of the week but updates will be provided as information becomes available. The District is working to expedite this process with its partners. Learn more about the BWA by visiting the SMDHU’s website here: https://bit.ly/3i03Fvm
How do I prepare my water for use?
Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Allow it to cool before:
- drinking (this also extends to drinking water for our pets)
- brushing teeth or rinsing dentures
- preparing food, wash fruits, vegetables, and other food
- preparing infant formula
- making ice, beverages, or other mixes, and washing dishes.
Where can I get drinking water until the BWA is lifted?
In addition to boiling water before use, residents may also temporarily get their drinking water from Kirby’s Beach Water Treatment Plant at 1601 Beaumont Drive in Bracebridge or locations in Gravenhurst that can be found here. If you are accessing water taps or getting water from the treatment plant, please ensure you follow COVID-19 safety protocols, maintain physical distancing and wear a face-covering where necessary.
The District, the Town of Bracebridge and our partners are working together to ensure our community is aware of this emergency; the Lakeland Power Interactive Voice Response System will be enacted to communicate the BWA to customers.
