District of Muskoka is inviting community members and representatives from agency partners to join an advisory committee for its IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism) Project. The District launched the IDEA project last summer to promote and celebrate diversity, create opportunities for dialogue, strengthen relationships and help combat systemic racism in Muskoka. The project explores best practices, programs, initiatives and tools that can be used to support the goal of a more inclusive Muskoka.
This IDEA advisory committee will help finalize and guide the execution of a community action plan, plan for future initiatives, supports and services that embrace IDEA, and act as an advisory body for Muskoka District Council
“District Council is committed to creating a community that is inclusive, diverse, equitable and anti-racist, and is one in which all residents have equal opportunity for positive educational, financial, social and health outcomes,” said District Chair John Klinck. “That is why Council voted unanimously to form an IDEA Advisory Group and have staff work on creating a Community IDEA Action Plan outlining future initiatives, supports and services to support the goals of the IDEA project in the workplace and in the broader community.”
The IDEA Advisory Group will be made up of two committees:
o The Champions Committee, the larger of the two committees, will be made up of Muskoka residents with a personal commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism. The majority of members will have lived experience of discrimination but there will also be an opportunity for a limited number of committed Muskoka residents without lived experience to be included.
o The Partners Committee, the smaller of the two committees, will be made up of representatives from Muskoka-based agency partners who are themselves committed to enacting the IDEA principles in their own organizations, as well as the community.
