The Shoreline Survey Program collects data on shoreline vegetation, shoreline structures and the first 20 metres of land around a water body.
All of the information gathered contributes to the growing database on the lakes in Muskoka. This database will identify long-term trends about this important buffer area. More information is available in the Shoreline Vegetation Buffers paper.
The District surveys the shorelines of approximately four to five lakes per year. Maps of the lakes surveyed to date are available on the Muskoka Water Web.
Design and construction done today should not have a negative impact on our land and lakes five, twenty-five, or fifty years in the future. Learn more about how to design and construct along the shoreline.
