GIS is short for Geographic Information System, but what does that mean?
GIS is a system or application designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data. This information and data is spatial, meaning that the data represents information about a physical location on Earth. The District's GIS team develops and maintains spatial information for mapping and data analysis to support District initiatives, and to provide the public with access to important geographical information across Muskoka.
GIS touches everyone's life regularly, but many people are unaware of its uses and availability. That's why we are excited to introduce you to the new Muskoka GeoHub!
