In Muskoka, we provide services under a 2-tier government system - and we know that can be confusing to understand who does what. That's what the It's what we do campaign is all about - helping our residents and visitors to Muskoka understand the work the District is doing in our communities towards building a better Muskoka together.

Let's take a closer look...

The District of Muskoka is what we call an upper-tier municipality. It's a larger, overarching level of government focusing on services that span across our six Area Municipalities (Muskoka's towns and townships):

Muskoka's six Area Municipalities are known as lower-tier municipalities and are a smaller, more localized level of government that focuses on localized community-specific needs.  

Together, both levels of our local government work together to align services and achieve cost-efficiencies to best serve residents and visitors to Muskoka.
