2.  Muskoka District Council Meeting Highlights - May 6, 2013

1.    Application to Provincial Government for Disaster Relief

Muskoka District Council adopted a resolution to begin the process to apply for the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP) following the flood emergency which commenced on Friday, April 19, 2013 across Muskoka.

The municipality is getting the application process in motion and will be sending a request to the Minister to declare a disaster area. The District has 14 business days since the declaration of an emergency for council to pass a resolution to apply for the program. A state of emergency was declared on April 19, 2013 in the Town of Huntsville and Town of Bracebridge.

The program has two components – a public component and a private component. The District is applying for funds under the public component only, to cover costs for municipal infrastructure repair (e.g. roads and bridges) and extraordinary policing costs.

The Towns of Huntsville and Bracebridge are applying for funds under both the public component and private component.  For information on the ODRAP funding for the Town of Huntsville, please visit www.huntsville.ca/en/townHall/emerginfo.asp.  For information on the ODRAP funding for the Town of Bracebridge, please visit www.bracebridge.ca.
