Current Muskoka Official Plan
The Muskoka Official Plan was originally approved in 1991 and has been updated through a number of official plan amendments. It is a strategic upper tier document that addresses issues of a broad nature. It emphasizes the need for a balance between growth and the protection of the natural environment and establishes a framework for more detailed planning at the Area Municipal level.

Amendments to the Muskoka Official Plan
In order to keep the Muskoka Official Plan up to date, amendments are proposed from time to time by the District of Muskoka or other proponents. Through amendments, existing policies can be revised or new policies added. Amendments can be district wide or site specific. Below is a list of proposed amendments to the Muskoka Official Plan.

Muskoka Official Plan Review
Muskoka is undertaking a comprehensive review of the Official Plan to ensure that future growth in Muskoka is properly managed and to satisfy provincial requirements. This review will also incorporate the findings of other work recently completed such as Lake System Health, the Muskoka Storm Water Management Strategy and the Second Home Study. In addition, the recently completed Community Visioning Program will provide important community perspectives from which to build policy.
