History
The Pines is owned and operated by the District Municipality of Muskoka. It is situated in Bracebridge, the heart of Muskoka, in a quiet and established residential area, surrounded by majestic century-old pine trees.
The Pines has been serving our elders since September 1961 with renowned care and dignity. The original facility was closed in September 2004 at which time the residents moved to our new state-of-the-art building adjacent to it.
Our new 160 bed home hosts single rooms in either basic or private accommodation completely furnished with pine furniture that is so reflective of “old Muskoka”. The 94 preferred-rate accommodation rooms provide maximum privacy with private two-piece washrooms.
Five resident home areas, four wonderful courtyards, a country kitchen, celebration dining room, chapel, fireplaces, library and family room with resident computer, tuck shop, beauty/barber shop, restorative /therapy room, Muskoka room, balconies, lounges and spa areas proudly complete the design.
The employees of The Pines demonstrate steadfast care and commitment throughout all departments by using a combination of holistic models of care – 24 hours a day, everyday.
Our vision of “OPTIMIZING LIFE” sets the foundation for our goal in supporting each individual to achieve an optimal quality of living.
The Pines has been accredited through the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation since 1987 and recently was awarded a three year accreditation with no recommendations from the survey – a testament to our values of quality care, respect, dignity, teamwork, integrity, training and development to name a few.
The Pines also receives annual Ministry of Health and Long Term Care inspections. We are proud of our accomplishments and maintain our commitment to continue to improve care and service of the highest standard to our very frail and deserving clientele.
Our not-for-profit home has two resident home areas set up to support those afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias. We are proud of the members of our Gentle Persuasive Approach Team who display such compassion and understanding to these very special people.
The staff at The Pines believes and is skilled in the family centered approach to care. Once a loved one comes into our care, so too do family members. It is through assessment, communication, implementation and evaluation that we strive and manage to support each individual in their aging journey with courage and dignity and fun along the way!
