Roads

The Roads Division is responsible for maintenance and construction of all district roads.
Routine road maintenance work such as snow ploughing, pothole repairs, etc. is contracted out either to the private sector or to Muskoka’s local municipalities. The tendering and supervision of contracts for maintenance work is performed directly by division staff. Maintenance also includes all matters relating to signs, traffic signals, line painting, traffic surveys and entrance permits on Muskoka’s District roads.
Division management is responsible for road needs assessment, long range planning, construction program development and budget preparation. Individual construction projects, environmental assessment, engineering, design, construction supervision and contract administration is handled by the Contract and Engineering Services Division or by consulting engineers. The construction work itself is almost exclusively contracted to the private sector through open public tenders.
